Project started: Q2 2020

In 2020, the Trivium Foundation started a project in one of the communities involved in De Monchy International’s Carnauba Wax supply chain. Together with our local partner, Instituto Carnauba, we investigated the possibilities to improve the community’s livelihoods. The results showed us that the children in Goiabal haven’t been able to get the proper education. Only 30% of all children within this region can go to school. However, the quality of education remains poor, and the schools can only be reached by boat.

The Goiabal community is spread over hundreds of islands and has lived very isolatedly with few basic facilities. An architect helped us research the possible locations for the new school, considering factors like raining season and seasonal floods.

Construction process

Over 150 children of the Goiabal and other surrounding communities will be able to receive the needed education when the school is built. It will be fully equipped, including a playground, library, community center, vegetable garden, kitchen/lunchroom, and filtered drinking water.

The construction of the school was supposed to start in November 2019, but due to excessive rains and the Corona pandemic, we were not able to start the construction. Luckily, two-and-a-half years later, we can finally open the new school for all the children. However, the school isn’t operational yet.
